About me
What is Cantiamo?
I established Cantiamo in 2016 to provide individual tuition and group singing, with the aim of helping others to experience the many benefits that making music can bring to life. It's a privilege to help musicians of all ages and abilities achieve their musical goals and improve their technique and experience the life-changing effects of making music, whether individually or as part of a group. I also teach singing and woodwind in schools and I love to perform solo and in bands, orchestras and ensembles. Cantiamo is about making a difference through music.
Achievements
I completed an honours degree in music from De Montfort University in 1995 and hold ABRSM Grade 8 in Flute, Singing and Music Theory. I also have Grade 5 saxophone and am working on Grade 5 clarinet. I first taught privately on leaving university and I’ve been involved in community music for over 15 years, being part of and leading instrumental and vocal groups. I've also been working in the private sector for over 30 years, so understand the pressures of the modern workplace! My proudest achievements include performing the Mozart Requiem in New York's Carnegie Hall in February 2018 (how do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practise, practise, practise!) and I was also extremely privileged to play whistles for Carlton Musical Productions for their 2026 show, Come from Away.
My background
Like many musicians, my first encounter with music was playing recorder as a child. Since then, I’ve gone on to specialise in flutes (of all kinds - orchestral, including piccolo, alto and bass, Irish flute, whistles, recorders and Chinese flutes) and singing (alto and mezzo-soprano), although I also play piano, saxophone, clarinet, cello, guitar & ukulele. I lead and play with the Torkard Ensemble and I'm the lead flute player with the Mat Davis Orchestra. I also teach in a number of local secondary schools and play in show bands.
